How to get better sleep   by 8C8

Are you tired? Fatigue could be caused by a few reasons. Often people blame the lack of sleep, but in reality the quality of sleep also matters.

In this article, I will show you five ways to get better sleep. Getting better sleep has many benefits such as being more alert during the daytime, increase concentration and improved moods. Additionally, it strengthens the immune system and promotes growth.

Tip 1 - Reserve your bed for sleep and sleep alone. Try not to eat, watch TV or do work on your bed even though you feel like it. Doing such activities on your bed can create a mess of breadcrumbs and pencil shavings, and also cause you to associate these activites with your bed. This can be distracting when you really want to sleep.

Tip 2 - Try to finish your work before you go to bed. If that cannot be accomplished, stop working for the day and note down all the unfinished business on a piece of paper or a booklet. This will help you to keep track of what you have to do tomorrow and leave your mind at ease. Write down tasks that Worry you to get them off your mind. Consequently, your mind will be carefree as you finally get into bed, resulting in a good night’s rest.

Tip 3 - Plan and organize your time before bed into a daily routine. When you can, try to sleep at the same time daily. Plan your bedtime and try to sleep at that time every day. About half an hour before you go to sleep, stop working. If you want you could read a book or drink some warm milk before you sleep. Abstain from caffeinated drinks as they stimulate the mind and can keep you awake longer. Warm milk is good as it calms the body.

Tip 4 - Keep your bedroom neat and tidy, and comfortable for sleeping. This will improve the quality of your sleep. You will be spending a few hours in your bed so make sure that the room is well ventilated and neither too hot nor too chilly. A good temperature is around 25 degrees Celsius. Ensure that your bed clutter-free and the bedsheets are nicely spread. Change them regularly for hygiene purposes.

Tip 5 - Don’t be too active right before you go to bed. Manage your activities of the day such that intense activites are scheduled to the morning and afternoon. This doesn’t mean that you should waste your evening away, instead, consider activities like folding laundry or playing the piano. Avoid horror movies and action films before you go to bed as your mind will be too active to fall asleep quickly.
